Collection of Old Psychological Instruments
The photo gallery of the collection of old psychological instruments, used primarily for testing and experimentation in cognitive processes (through the controlled manipulation of visual, auditory, and tactile stimuli), as well as for assessing abilities, fatigue, and related functions, is part of the exhibition hosted by the Laboratory for Experimental Psychology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade.
Thanks to Academician Professor Aleksandar Kostić, these instruments have been preserved and exhibited, offering visitors the opportunity to become acquainted with the very beginnings of experimental psychology.
The collection was established on the initiative of Professor Borislav Stevanović, one of the founders of psychology in this region. It contains around 100 valuable instruments dating from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Many of these items were acquired through war reparations and today represent an important cultural heritage collection unique in the world, including instruments manufactured by the German Zimmerman Company from Leipzig, the Boulitte Company from Paris, and the Palmer Company from London.
